Chittaradangala is a living archive of Hase/Chittara—the intricate, geometrical mural art practiced by the Devaru community people in Shimoga districts of Karnataka’s Malnad region. Traditionally painted with rice flour and natural ochres on freshly plastered walls, these motifs celebrate marriage rituals, harvests, and everyday village life.
Our Artisans
The collection is curated and created by Smt. Gowramma Huchappa Master, a nationally recognised folk artist from Sagar, along with her son Sri Jayaram K H. In 2006 Gowramma received the Karnataka Janapada & Yakshagana Academy Award for her contribution to preserving Chittara heritage. Every panel displayed here is hand‑drawn at Chittara, the family home‑studio in Sagar.
Through workshops, public murals, and school demonstrations, the family has introduced thousands of students and craft lovers to this endangered folk form.
Mission
Our mission is to keep Chittara’s rhythmic geometry alive—documenting classical patterns, training new artisans, and making original works accessible to connoisseurs worldwide.
